How I Wrap a Bug in 5 Colours
Every car that rolls through the garage gets the same treatment: stripped back, sketched out, and then absolutely covered in colour until it stops looking sensible. The Disco Wagon was no exception.
Step one — pick a fight with grey
Grey is the enemy. I start by blocking the biggest panels in the loudest base colour I can justify, then build contrast from there. Tape is your friend; patience is optional.
Once the base is down, I map out where the highlights and the hand-painted details will sit. This is where the personality sneaks in — a wink here, a racing stripe that goes nowhere there.
Step two — let the chaos in
After the planned bits are dry, I freehand the rest. Stickers, splatters, a tiny portrait of whichever cat was supervising that day. The goal isn't perfection, it's energy.
